We made this CD because of all the great cover CDs available on Amazon and chose songs that are rarely covered.
Built in stages the way Pink Floyd do and it starts with the commercial stage of 5 songs, "candy & a current bun" and "Arnold Layne" being very "acid era" we loved doing the sitar break in "candy" our favorite bit. "Julia dream " and "green is the colour" are very acoustic which then leads to "apples & oranges" which is a very overlooked Syd Barrett song; Louise did a great job of vocals on this with its weird timing.
Stage 2 is the intense part starting with "Nile song" the hippies guitar just keeps on coming and is very indie in style, this then leads into "pigs" which is very heavy "iron maiden" in style (with original Iron Maiden drummer banging the kit) add a few other bits thrown in by Fattkatt and finally leading onto a version of "set the controls for the heart of the sun" with lots of FX's thrown in to keep you discovering new sounds (complete with a message to Syd hidden in it)
stage 3 is the odd timing stage with "point me at the sky" which runs from 4/4 time and 3/4 time, this carries on to "scarecrow" which is 3/4 and 7/8 this song is very Beatles "I am the walrus" in production
Stage 4 which is the acoustic stage and starts with the beautiful "if" sung by Louise Lennon it just melts into your ears before moving onto Granchester Meadows, crying song and embryo
"tiger" breaks the mode by being played entirely on the (guitar) ebow at different harmonic positions by Dave Maxwell (maxaxe) and sung beautifully by Daniella Maria who joined us at the end of the recordings (and also supplied the very popular cover design) topped off with a lot of production FX's by Fattkatt at the end, this gives us an almost Scottish / folk feel to the song which fitted perfectly with Daniella’s voice
finally we have an acoustic / organ version of "cirrus minor" sung hauntingly by Linda Stephenson, this was the last song on the CD at Linda’s request,
